#ThisWeekinHistory 1969, you may have seen a particular holiday billboard: They were a part of John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s peace campaign and read “War is over! If you want it. Happy Christmas from John & Yoko” #AceHistoryNews – @AceHistoryNews

#AceHistoryNews – Dec.18: The campaign launched in 12 global cities: New York, Los Angeles, Toronto, Rome, Athens, Amsterdam, Berlin, Paris, London, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Helsinki #AceHistoryDesk reports

https://t.me/HistoricalPics/7611 And, in some of the countries, the billboards were presented in the country’s native language. There were also full page newspaper ads, pamphlets, and posters…….Many have thought that the billboards were inspired by Lennon’s song Happy Xmas (War Is Over), but in fact it was the billboard campaign that inspired the song………….When the billboards were erected, the war in Vietnam had reached a terrible record as around 40,000 American servicemen had died. Opposition to the war had also climaxed that November with around 250,000 people marching in Washington D.C. #WarisOver #JohnLennon #YokoOno #Billboard #GivePeaceAChance #OTD #AceHistoryNews

On #ThisDayinHistory 1956, the “Million Dollar Quartet” has its one and only recording sessi on. It was in a modest storefront recording studio in Memphis where Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee L ewis and Carl Perkins met and had a historic jam session #AceHistoryNews – @AceHistoryNews

#AceHistoryNews – Dec.04: But, most had never heard about it until 1981, when the first portions of the lost tapes were discovered and released: The studio was run by Sam Phillips, legendary producer whose Sun Records had launched Elvis Presley on his path toward stardom two years earlier with the release of his first single, “It’s Alright Mama.” Among other stars cultivated by Phillips, was Carl Perkins the rockabilly legend who was in the studio on that day to record a follow-up to his smash hit “Blue Suede Shoes” from earlier that year #AceHistoryDesk reports

https://t.me/HistoricalPics/7530 Hanging out in the booth was Perkins’ good friend Johnny Cash, already a star in his own right, and playing piano for a $15 session fee was the not-yet-famous Jerry Lee Lewis, whose career-making Sun singleWhole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On” was set for release just a few weeks later……….Four songs into Perkins’ session, all work came to an end with the arrival of an unexpected drop-in guest: Elvis Presley himself…….Recording engineer Jack Clement ran a tape and Sam Phillips had the presence of mind to call a photographer from the local paper to capture images of Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins gathered around a piano singing…….The caption under the photo that ran in the next day’s Memphis Press-Scimitar was “Million Dollar Quartet.” The label quickly caught on among rock-and-roll fans who would not actually get the chance to hear the recording for 30 years #OTD #MillionDollarQuartet #Elvis #JohnnyCash #CarlPerkins #JeeryLeeLewis #musichistory #SunRecords #AceHistoryNews

#AceNewsReport – Dec.01: The successful Montgomery Bus Boycott, organized by a young Baptist minister named Martin Luther King, Jr., followed Park’s historic act of civil disobedience. Parks had been active in Civil Rights prior to 1955, having joined the Montgomery chapter of the NAACP in 1943 #AceHistoryDesk reports

https://t.me/HistoricalPics/7516. And prior to the bus boycott, local civil rights leaders had been planning to challenge Montgomery’s racist bus laws for several months………In fact, many young women had refused to give up their seats in the years prior to this coordinated effort……..Following Parks’ arrest, the NAACP and other African American activists immediately called for a bus boycott to be held by black citizens on Monday, December.05: ……..The first day of the bus boycott was a great success, and that night the 26-year-old Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. emerged as the leader of the bus boycott which stretched on for more than a year, diminishing Montgomery bus ridership by 70 percent………..On November 13, 1956, the Supreme Court struck down Alabama state and Montgomery city bus segregation laws as being in violation of the equal protection clause of the 14th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution……….Rosa Parks died on October 24, 2005…….Three days later the U.S. Senate passed a resolution to honor Parks by allowing her body to lie in honor in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda. #OTD #RosaParks #CivilRights #BlackHistory #BusBoycott
